Social Workers are currently the most recognized mental health professionals in Ontario, some may identify as therapists. Social Work is a regulated profession, only people who meet the criteria can use the term Social Worker. There is no regulation over the title of therapist.
Some Social Workers practice psychotherapy and therefore may call themselves a Psychotherapist. To learn more about Psychotherapy and who can use the title Psychotherapist, please visit this link:

I primarily support parents and children (under 12). Majority of the parents I see are mothers.

Yes. However, occasionally there are times where holding a waitlist is the best practice to ensure continuity for current clients.

If you wish to travel to Waterdown, you’re always welcome to meet in-person at the clinic. If you reside outside of driving distance, we can meet virtually via secure telehealth platform (Jane). I’m Registered in Ontario, which means I can support anyone residing anywhere in Ontario.

Yes. If your extended health benefits cover mental health professionals, likely there is coverage for Social Work. Most insurance companies seek either a Registered Social Worker and/or a Masters of Social Work and I hold both designations.

This is not a current offering. After a session, upon payment, you will be sent a receipt that should be used to claim your reimbursement through your extended health benefits (where applicable).

Sessions are typically 50 minutes in length. I also offer 25min sessions which may be appropriate for a child or where we determine shorter visits may be appropriate.

Parent involvement is an important part of the therapeutic process with a child. Parent(s) are usually more involved in the first session and then regularly will check-in at the beginning of a session and/or the end of a session.

My belief is if you are having the thought of what working with a Social Worker would look like (for yourself or your child), schedule a meet and greet call. Curiosity has emerged from somewhere and having a chat can satisfy that curiosity. Emotional and Mental Wellness has been more and more normalized over the past few years. It is very rare that a child comes in thinking there is “something wrong with them” as I find this is more of the stigma we adults are still working through.
